Ducks Sweep Texas, Split Day One in Hawaii


HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Oregon beach volleyball team closed out Friday’s slate at the Queens Cup in Hawaii with a 5-0 victory over Texas. The win was the Ducks’ third of the year and snapped a five-match skid. Overall, Oregon finished the day with a split after dropping its weekend opener to Washington.
 
The Ducks return to the sand at Queen’s Beach with matches against host and ninth-ranked Hawaii at 12:15 p.m. (PT) and No. 11 California at 5:15 p.m.
 
Oregon 5, Texas 0
 
The Ducks kicked things off against Texas with a 21-11, 21-6 triumph for Ella Tyus and Bea Wetton in the No. 2 spot in the lineup. The result was their team-leading sixth win of the season. Natasha George and Ashley Schroeder pushed the advantage to 2-0 with another straight-set victory at No. 4 pairs, the duo’s second win of the day.
 
Oregon clinched the match with a win by Presley McCaskill and Valerie Peterson on court five (21-14, 21-13), the first-career victory for McCaskill. The UO pair defeated Marianna Singletary and Ella Swindle for the clinching point.
 
The Ducks completed the sweep with wins at No. 1 pairs by Zoe Almanza and Chloe Brown, and a come-from-behind victory for Abby Plevin and Batia Rotshtein in the No. 3 spot. Plevin and Rotshtein lost the first set but rallied for the win including a 24-22 effort in set two.

In their first match of the day, the Ducks picked up a point against No. 14 Washington with a win at No. 4 pairs from Natasha George and Ashley Schroeder. The duo posted a 21-18, 21-18 victory over Maeve Griffin and Mary Sinclair to snap a four-match skid. The win for George and Schroeder was their fourth this season.
 
At the No. 2 spot in the lineup, Ella Tyus and Bea Wetton found themselves in another three setter for the fifth time in 10 matches, and for the second time against the UW pair of Piper Monk-Heidrich and Kendall Matter. The Ducks’ duo took an extended first set, 27-25, before…
