Duke Falls at NC State

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Duke volleyball team was swept at NC State, 3-0 (15-25, 15-25, 13-25) Sunday afternoon in Raleigh, N.C. to split the weekend. 
 
NC State posted a .337 hitting percentage with 42 kills and just nine errors, the second-best hitting percentage by a Duke opponent this season. The Wolfpack’s Sophia Groom hit a flawless 1.000 percent with 10 kills on 10 attempts. 
 
Duke was led by Kerry Keefe with seven kills, while Grace Penn dished 13 assists. Mailinh Godschall paced the defense with 10 digs. 
 
How it Happened

  • NC State jumped out to a 1-0 lead quickly by way of a .333 hitting percentage to open the first set. The Wolfpack tallied 11 blocks, one solo and 10 assisted, in the opening frame to limit the Blue Devils to just a .071 clip. 
  • Duke continued to struggle offensively and fell behind 2-0 in the match score. Five different NC State players tallied blocks in the second set to help hold the lead.
  • The Wolfpack closed the match hitting .412 percent in the third and final set with 16 kills and six blocks. 

Notables

  • Duke drops to 7-10 overall and 3-3 in conference play as NC State elevates to 9-5 (4-2 ACC). 
  • Duke’s .067 hitting percentage was its worst this season and the lowest since September 30, 2022, against No. 10 Pittsburgh. 
  • It was the fifth time this season Duke has been swept. 
  • The Blue Devils move to 1-3 on the road. 
  • The all-time series moves to 71-35 in favor of Duke.
