Duke Falls at No. 13 Georgia Tech, 3-1

ATLANTA – No. 13 Georgia Tech defeated Duke, 3-1 (25-10, 23-25, 25-15, 25-23), Friday evening at O’Keefe Gymnasium in Atlanta, Ga. 

Duke was led by Jess Robinson and Kerry Keefe with 15 and 11 kills, respectively, while setter Emma Worthington dished 26 assists. Libero Madison Bryant paced the defense with 17 digs while Lizzie Fleming tallied a season-high seven blocks to lead the unit at the net. 

The Yellow Jackets featured three with double-digit kills and two players with double-doubles en route to the win. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Georgia Tech used a .318 hitting percentage and limited Duke to a negative clip to take an early 1-0 match lead. 
  • The second set featured 11 ties and seven lead changes as Duke was able to even the score, 1-1. 
  • Duke trailed 14-11 in the second set but used a 7-1 run to take an 18-15 lead. Robinson led the offensive unit with five kills and no errors on nine swings to hit .625 percent. 
  • Georgia Tech bounced back to take a 2-1 set lead by way of a .275 hitting percentage in the third set and once again limited the Blue Devils to below .100 percent. Despite dropping the set, Duke’s block began to come alive with 4.5 total team blocks as Johnson and Robinson each added two.  
  • The Blue Devils led every statistical category in the fourth set but were unable to hold off the 13th-ranked team in the nation.
