SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Duke volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (25-18, 19-25, 22-25, 21-25) decision to Syracuse Friday afternoon in Syracuse, N.Y.
How it Happened
- Duke was led by Gracie Johnson with nine kills while Lizzie Fleming and Rylie Kadel each added eight. Kadel hit .467 percent as Devon Chang dished out 25 assists.
- Kadel paced the defensive unit with a career-high eight blocks, including one solo, while Sydney Yap and Chang tallied 11 and 10 digs, respectively. Chang’s double-double was the 12th of her career.
- Duke started the match hitting .276 in the first set as Fleming tallied four kills and no errors to hit .667. The Blue Devils also tallied eight blocks, spearheaded by Kadel’s four, as the Orange only grabbed two.
- Syracuse jumped out to a fast 16-12 lead in the second and went on a 7-1 run to end the set tied at 1-1.
- Both teams struggled to find offensive rhythm in the third with eight blocks apiece as Syracuse secured three aces.
- Kerry Keefe knocked in four kills to hit .800 as the Blue Devils played to a .226 clip, but Duke’s service errors caused them trouble late in the set.
