Duke Outlasted at Boston College, 3-2

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Duke volleyball team fell to Boston College, 3-2 (25-14, 21-25, 16-25, 25-14, 13-15), Friday evening in Chestnut Hill, Mass.  

Three Blue Devils — Gracie Johnson, Kerry Keefe and Jess Robinson — registered double-digit kills to pace Duke’s offense. Keefe and Robinson each tallied 14 kills while Johnson added 12. Setter Emma Worthington dished 38 assists while Madison Bryant added a career-high 28 digs. Robinson and Rachel Richardson each tallied six blocks at the net. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Duke hit .400 percent in the opening set with 16 kills and just two mistakes on 35 attempts. 
  • Both offenses struggled to find any consistency in the second set as the Blue Devils were limited to a negative hitting percentage. 
  • Boston College led 9-4 early in the third set as it put Duke on its heels, both offensively and defensively. The Eagles used multiple runs, including a 4-0 run to take a 19-11 lead, and limited the Blue Devils to just one 3-0 run to take a 2-1 set lead. 
  • Duke looked to bounce back in the fourth set after hitting negative and .053 percent in the second and third sets, respectively. 
  • Trailing 2-1, Duke took a 13-9 advantage to force Boston College into its first timeout of the set. The Blue Devils led by as many as 12 (22-10) and evened the score (2-2) with a .185 hitting percentage.
