Duke Remains on the Road with Virginia, Virginia Tech


DURHAM, N.C. – Duke hits the road to take on Virginia and Virginia Tech this weekend. The Blue Devils will play the Cavaliers Friday at 7 p.m., on ACCNX before a 4 p.m., contest in Blacksburg Sunday on ACC Network. 
 
Last Time Out
 
Duke split the weekend on the road as the Blue Devils defeated Wake Forest (3-1) before falling to NC State (3-0). 
 
Kerry Keefe led the offense with 23 kills, while libero Mailinh Godschall added 25 digs in two matches. Freshman Breonna Goss led the blocking unit with five total blocks.
 
A Closer Look at the Series
 
VIRGINIA
Duke and Virginia meet for the 73rd time in program history as the Blue Devils lead the all-time series, 59-13. Duke has won 29 of the last 30 meetings. The last time Duke lost at Virginia was October 7, 2005.
 
VIRGINIA TECH
Duke and Virginia Tech meet for the 42nd time in program history as the Blue Devils lead the all-time series, 35-6. Duke has won nine of the last 11.
 
Scouting the Opponents
 
VIRGINIA
The Cavaliers enter Friday’s contest receiving votes in the latest AVCA poll the last two weeks with a 14-3 overall record. Virginia swept then-No. 16 Florida State (10/4) and is 4-2 in the ACC this season. Four players feature 100+ kills and are led by Abby Tadder and Elayna Duprey with 172 kills each. Setter Ashley Le leads the quarterbacks with 407 dimes while Milan Gomillion owns 284 digs. As a team, the Cavaliers are sixth in the conference in total blocks (154.5) as Tadder leads the way with 74. Virginia boasts a .222 hitting percentage this fall and is limiting its opponents to a .168 clip. 
 
VIRGINIA TECH
Virginia Tech enters Sunday’s contest 7-9 overall and 1-5 in conference play. Belle Patrick and Hailey Pearce lead the offense with 168 and 167 kills, respectively, as setter Viktoria Wahlgren has dished 483 assists this fall for 8.19 per set. Leandra Mangual-Duran leads the defensive effort with 180 digs, while Jordan Hallman and Jasmine Robinson pace the blocking unit with 65 and 53 total blocks, respectively. As a team, the Hokies are playing to just a .169 hitting percentage, the lowest in the ACC, while their opponents are hitting .207 this season.

Duke returns to Durham to host Miami (Oct. 25) and Florida State (Oct. 27).
