Duke Swept at No. 1 Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Duke volleyball team was swept 3-0 (10-25, 11-25, 13-25) by No. 1 Pittsburgh on Sunday afternoon at Fitzgerald Field House. 

On offense, Duke was paced by Kerry Keefe, who tallied seven kills, while Grace Penn logged a team-high12 assists. Libero Mailinh Godschall recorded eight digs to pace the Blue Devils.

Duke was limited to a -.095 hitting percentage while Pittsburgh ended the match with a .350 hitting percentage of its own. The Panthers finished with 12 blocks to Duke’s three and Pittsburgh also tallied four service aces to the Blue Devils’ two. 

How it Happened

  • Pittsburgh took quick control of the first set, opening with seven of the first eight points and triggering a Duke timeout. The Blue Devils pulled within four, 8-4, but the Panthers responded with an 8-1 run take a 16-5 lead. After Duke drew within nine, 19-10, Pittsburgh reeled off six straight points to take the set, 25-10.
  • Pittsburgh opened the second set with a 3-1 lead, but Duke rallied to knot the score at both 6-6 and 7-7. The Panthers ripped off seven straight points from there, taking a 14-7 advantage to seize control of the set. The Blue Devils pulled within five, 14-9, and kept it within six, 17-11, before the Panthers tallied the final eight points en route to a 25-11 win in the second set.
