DURHAM – The Duke volleyball team (10-5, 1-3 ACC) returns to Cameron Indoor Stadium this weekend with Notre Dame and No. 6 Louisville.
The Blue Devils take on the Fighting Irish Friday at 6:30 p.m. before a 1 p.m. contest against the Cardinals on Sunday. Both matches will be broadcast on ACCNX.
A CLOSER LOOK AT THE SERIES
NOTRE DAME
Duke and Notre Dame meet for the 22nd time in program history as the Fighting Irish hold a slight 11-10 lead in the all-time series. Duke has won the last two meetings and is 6-4 in Durham.
LOUISVILLE
Duke and Louisville meet for the 18th time in program history as the Cardinals lead the all-time series, 11-6. Louisville has won nine of the last 11 matchups, including the last eight. Duke’s last win over Louisville in Durham was Nov. 4, 2016 with a 3-0 sweep.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
NOTRE DAME
Notre Dame enters Friday’s contest 8-4 overall and 2-2 in the conference. Most recently, the Fighting Irish were swept by No. 5 Louisville and NC State. Offensively, Notre Dame is led by Sydney Palazzolo with 192 kills and 4.17 kills/set while setter Nicole Drewnick has 448 assists under her belt this fall. Defensively, Hattie Monson leads the way with 183 digs while Charity McDowell and Lauren Tarnoff spearhead the blocking unit with 38 and 32 total blocks, respectively. As a team, the Fighting Irish are playing to a .192 hitting percentage, the third worst in the conference.
LOUISVILLE
Louisville enters Sunday’s contest 12-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play, having lost to NC State last weekend (3-1). The Cardinals feature four players with 100-or-more kills and are led by Charitie Luper with 121 while Cara Cresse is hitting .437 percent this fall to rank 10th nationally. Setter Elle Glock leads the way with 438 assists while libero Elena Scott owns 230 digs for 4.69 digs/set. Three different Cards own over 40 total blocks and are led by Phekran pk Kong with 48.0. This fall, Louisville is hitting .283 percent to rank 14th nationally.
