ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—The Elizabethtown men’s volleyball team opened the 2025 season at home, Tuesday evening against Eastern where the Blue Jays fell, 3-0.
Ethan Scott totaled 22 assists and three digs. Arun Gopinath recorded seven kills while Declan Keller totaled six kills. Gopinath and Keller also each grabbed six digs.
Set one opened with the team’s trading points before Eastern rattled off five straight to take an early 7-4 lead. Three Blue Jay errors extended the Eagles lead to 13-8. Etown then put together a 4-1 run to come within four of Eastern as Gopinath, Keller and Logan Smith put down kills. Elizabethtown earned their final points from Eastern errors. The Eagles were able to take set one, 25-19.
To start set two, Eastern jumped to an 8-3 lead after recording five in a row. A Keller kill and Scott ace left the Blue Jays trailing, 12-8. After trading points for a bit, the Blue Jays fired off four straight points. With the help of Eagle errors, the Blue Jays trailed 20-17. From there the Eagles would earn the final five to win, 25-17.
The third set was tight throughout. Elizabethtown would tie up the set 10-10 after kills from Keller and Craig Patrick. Eastern then took the lead 15-12 before the Blue Jays regained the lead 21-18 after tallying five in a row. Etown continued to hold on to the lead until the score showed 23-21. The Eagles were able to gather the final four points to win set three, 25-23.
Elizabethtown will travel to Hood Saturday, January 18 for their first tri-match of the season to also face Randolph.
