Egypt won the men’s gold medal at the 2025 World ParaVolley Sitting Volleyball World Cup on Saturday at the Turnstone Center, defeating Brazil 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-15, 25-21) in the final to hand the South Americans their only loss of the tournament. The result came two years after Egypt finished runners-up on home soil in Cairo, completing their rise from silver to gold.
The African champions showcased powerful serves, solid blocking, and composed teamwork to finish their campaign on top of the podium. Brazil also made progress from their fifth-place result in 2023, earning their first medal in the men’s competition.
Egypt opened the contest with confidence, finding their rhythm early through sharp attacking and well-placed serves. Their efficiency at the attack line proved decisive, outscoring Brazil 11-8 in kills while adding two aces to maintain control. Hesham El Shwikh and Ahmed Mohamed Soliman (Khamis) led the charge with four points each, while Gustavo Henrique De Jesus and Luis Fabiano Oliveira matched their totals but lacked consistent support from their side. Brazil answered with a much stronger second frame, racing to a 6-2 lead through sharper attacks and improved defence. Gilberto Lourenco Da Silva, known as Giba, helped stabilise their play as Egypt struggled with unforced errors. Despite a brief Egyptian rally led by Khamis, Brazil regained control through quick net plays and accurate side-outs. Gustavo’s strike from the right wing set up set point at 24-20, and a block-out off Wellington’s swing sealed the 25-22 win to level the match.
Egypt regrouped in the third set with greater composure and organisation. Saad Moussa El Sayed powered the attack with four points as Egypt surged to a 17-10 advantage. Although Wellington sparked a short Brazilian comeback, Egypt’s 3-1 run and strong service pressure kept them in command. Their serves repeatedly found open spots while Brazil’s offence faltered under pressure. Khamis completed a dominant service run to close the set 25-15, restoring Egypt’s one-set lead.
Determined to extend the match, Brazil began the fourth with energy, building a 6-2 advantage after a commanding block by Oliveira.
