HARRISONBURG, Va. – As EMU gets set to kick off its winter sports seasons, the athletics department announced its COVID-19 safety protocols for spectators in Yoder Arena.

Spectators are welcome at all sporting events.  Masks are required in all campus buildings at all times regardless of vaccination status. Spectators are expected to respect the wishes of those who want to practice distancing.

After a 2020-21 season that saw many cancellations and postponements, Royals Director of Athletics Dave King is excited to see this return to action and to get fans in the stands.

“THE ROYALS ARE BACK!,” King said. “This week kicks off the winter sports season and we are so excited to once again have fans in the stands.  While we are really glad to begin competition, we recognize that the pandemic is not over. So we enter the season with caution and campus policies to mitigate the spread of COVID. We are following NCAA recommendations and ODAC standard operating procedures that includes regular testing, masking in locker rooms, during travel and in restaurants. Players, coaches and officials are not required to wear masks.”

Fans are expected to comply with protocols when attending events on other campuses.
