TEMPE – The libero group just got deeper for Sun Devil Volleyball as sophomore Estella Zatechka from Mizzou joins Sun Devil Volleyball for the 2023 season.
“We are stoked to have Estella join the team,” head coach JJ Van Niel said. “She is a fantastic student-athlete that will help build our culture. Her attitude will fit right in with our team and we are so excited about what she’s going to bring to Tempe.”
Zatechka, a 5-8 libero from Omaha, Nebraska, played her freshman season as a defensive specialist at Mizzou. She played in 18 matches and tallied 70 digs and five aces. She earned a career-high 16 digs in one match, and had two matches with double-digit digs.
Prior to Mizzou, she was the top libero recruit in Nebraska, per PrepVolleyball. She was the No. 131 overall recruit in the class of 2022 rankings on PrepVolleyball. In her four years playing on varsity, she led the state of Nebraska in digs, tallying 2,100 digs and 100 aces total for her prep career. She played club volleyball with Premier NE and was named to AVCA Best and Brightest in 2021.
