Fairbanks, McDonough Named PNC Achievers of the Week


PITTSBURGH – Volleyball’s Rachel Fairbanks and Track & Field’s Thomas McDonough were named PNC Achievers of the Week following a pair of strong performances.

Rachel Fairbanks averaged 11.50 assists per set, 2.00 digs per set and 0.83 aces per set in two sweeps to advance to the Regional Semifinals.

Fairbanks notched 33 assists and eight digs while tying a season-high five aces against Morehead State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament and recorded 36 assists, four digs, two blocks and two kills in the Round of 32 to help Pitt advance to its fifth straight Regional Semifinal.

Thomas McDonough won the men’s 200-meter race and was a part of the winning 4×400-meter relay squad at the YSU Icebreaker. McDonough recorded two top ten program times, and the relay team notched a new meet record.

In the 200-meter, McDonough recorded a time of 21.18 to claim first place and move into fifth all time in the men’s indoor record book. McDonough led off the Pitt 4×400-meter relay team, who won the final event of the day and set a YSU Icebreaker record with their time of 3:11.31. Additionally, McDonough took third in the 60-meter dash with times of 6.81 in the preliminary round and 6.84 in the final. 6.81 is a new personal best for the Pittsburgh native and is tied for the seventh best time in program history.
