Field Hockey and Swimming Nab Weekly Awards; Seven on Honor Roll


TROY, N.Y. – Seniors Sophie Brady of the field hockey team and Aurelie Truquet of the women’s swimming and diving team earned weekly Liberty League honors while seven other Union College student-athletes were named to their respective honor rolls for the week ending October 13, the Liberty League announced on Monday afternoon.
 
Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week: Sophie Brady
Brady earns her third DPOW nod of the season and after a big day in goal in Union’s 3-2 (OT) win over William Smith on Saturday, making a career-high 12 saves to preserve her 20th career victory and moving her into a tie for fourth place on the school’s career wins list. The junior made six saves in the second period to preserve the team’s two-goal lead despite being outshot by a 7-0 margin, then added four saves in the second half and one more in overtime to accumulate the most saves in a win by a Union goalie in almost seven years.
 
Women’s Swimming & Diving Diver of the Week: Aurelie Truquet
Truquet picks up her first career weekly honor after a strong weekend to help Union go 3-0 to start the season. In Friday’s home dual meet with Roberts Wesleyan and Westfield State, Truquet placed second in the 3-meter diving with a score of 200.25 for six dives. In the one-meter dive, Truquet finished third with a score of 196.80. In Saturday’s meet at Clarkson, Truquet placed first in both diving events. The Paris native scored 190.55 in the one-meter diving and 211.75 in the three-meter event.
 
Honor Roll Mentions:
 
Field Hockey: Maddie Greco
Greco netted the game-winning goal 7:49 into overtime to lift Union to a 3-2 (OT) win over William Smith in the team’s only game of the week. The goal was her team-leading third game-winner of the season and gave Union its fourth win over the Herons in the last five years.

Women’s Soccer: Sam Friedman, Maya Koster

Friedman scored key goals in two of Union’s three wins last week, helping the Garnet Chargers extend their unbeaten streak to five. She scored the only goal of the first half that turned out to be the game-winner in Saturday’s victory over Bard, and she broke the ice again on Sunday against Hamilton in the 59th minute as part of a 2-1 victory.

 

Koster won both of her starts for Union as part of an undefeated week, allowing one goal in 135:00 of action. She played the first half…
