Utah Athletics will honor women in sports at the University of Utah and the 50th anniversary of Title IX with a Fifty Years Forward Celebration Banquet on Friday evening. The event also features a silent auction, which is live online now and available to everyone for bidding. Bids are accepted here until 7 p.m. on Friday.
The event begins Friday with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. in the Kem & Carolyn Gardner Legacy Hall. Online auction items will be available for viewing. A dinner and program will follow at 7 p.m. on the floor of the Jon M. Huntsman Center.
More than 500 alumni, current student-athletes, coaches, administrators, University leaders, family members, and friends of the program are expected to attend.
The online auction features official gear, apparel and signed memorabilia from all 20 Ute varsity athletic teams, Utah Olympians, and NCAA National Champions. Special items representing some the finest brands in the state, and beyond, that support Utah Athletics and our women’s programs are also available.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Utes with Wings, which enhances support for our women’s athletics programs, funding team-building exercises and retreats, foreign and domestic travel, facility enhancements and overall program development. The Fifty Years Forward Celebration Banquet will feature an outstanding group of presenters, including former women’s basketball coach Elaine Elliott, former softball player and coach Jo Evans, volleyball coach Beth Launiere, former gymnast and coach Megan Marsden, and track & field athlete Maya LeBar.
The event will be emceed by KUTV-TV 2 morning news anchor Mary Nickles. Charmelle Green, a former Ute softball player who has returned to her alma mater as the Deputy Athletics Director for Internal Operations and COO, will give the formal welcome. Athletics Director Mark Harlan will close the evening with his remarks and reflections on 50 years of Title IX.
