Fighting Illini Great Ali Bastianelli Selected for 2023 Athletes Unlimited Volleyball Season


MESA, Ariz. – Illinois volleyball alumna Ali Bastianelli was selected to Team Nootsara for the opening week of the 2023 Athletes Unlimited Volleyball season, the league announced on Tuesday.

Bastianelli was one of the best to don the Orange and Blue during her career at Illinois from 2015-18. The three-time American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American started 135 matches in her Fighting Illini career, totaling 750 blocks to become the first Illini and third-ever Big Ten player to reach 700 career blocks. The Michigan native also added 925 kills on a .335 hitting percentage, 114 digs and 46 service aces. In 2018, she helped lead the Fighting Illini to the NCAA national semifinals while earning Champaign Regional All-Tournament Team honors.

The Athletes Unlimited season gets underway on Friday, Oct. 6, with a doubleheader at Legacy Park. Team Nootsara and Team Valentin-Anderson play in the opening match at 6 p.m. CT before Team Edmond faces Team De La Cruz in the nightcap at 8:30 p.m.
