BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following a pair of wins over Mississippi State and a four-set battle at No. 18 Kentucky, Morgahn Fingall and Natalie Hayward garnered Southeastern Conference weekly awards. Hayward was named the league’s player of the week and setter of the week, while Fingall earned offensive player of the week honors.
Hayward topped off an outstanding week with the first triple-double of her career on Sunday – notching a career-high 10 kills, a career-best 61 assists and 14 digs. Her triple-double is the first for a Lady Vol since 2012 and is just the fourth in program history. Her efforts led Tennessee to a five-set win over Mississippi State.
Earlier in the week, she tallied nine kills and 28 assists at No. 18 Kentucky before scoring six kills and dishing out 33 assists in a sweep of MSU on Saturday. Hayward averaged 2.80 kills per set, 10.17 assists per set and 2.79 points per set this week, while hitting .550.
It is the second time this season she has picked up setter of the week accolades and her first player of the week honor. For her career, Hayward has been named setter of the week six times and player of the week three times.
Fingall had an excellent week as she led the Lady Vols with an average of 4.75 kills per set, 5.25 points per set and hit .394. She had a pair of 20-plus kill outings, notching 20 kills on the road at No. 18 Kentucky before setting a career-high with 29 kills in a five-set win over Mississippi State on Sunday.
In 12 sets of action, the right-side attacker scored 57 kills – committing just seven errors – on 127 attempts. Fingall also earned a pair of double-doubles over the three matches.
This is Fingall’s third offensive player of the week honor this season and the fourth of her career.
