PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh volleyball team and head coach Dan Fisher are excited to announce the 2024 schedule and pursue a sixth ACC Championship and first National Championship. The returning ACC Co-Champions are coming off their third straight Final Four and top four national finish.
The Panthers will play 15 matches against 2023 NCAA Tournament participants, including two teams that advanced to the Sweet 16 (Penn State and Georgia Tech) and three Elite Eight teams (Louisville, Oregon and Stanford). Seven of the ten non-conference matches are against teams that advanced to the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
The Panthers will open the season with a Blue/Gold exhibition at the Fitzgerald Field House on Aug. 17 before traveling to Ann Arbor, Mich. to play the Michigan Wolverines on Aug. 24 in a final scrimmage before the season opener.
Pitt will head west Aug. 30-31 to face Oregon and Long Beach State to open the season. The Ducks have advanced to the Elite Eight in each of the past two seasons and most recently defeated Pitt at the Fitzgerald Field House last September in a five-set battle.
The Panthers host Buffalo on Sept. 3 for the home opener before they head back out to the West Coast to play USC (Sept. 11) in Los Angeles. Shortly after, Pitt will play host Pepperdine (Sept. 13) and UC Santa Barbara (Sept. 14) to wrap up the week. Pitt defeated USC in the NCAA Tournament Round of 32 while Pepperdine and UC Santa Barbara participated in the Round of 64 last season.
Pitt returns for a four-match home slate as it takes on in state rival Penn State (Sept. 18) in the first of two games at the Petersen Event Center. The Panthers look to even the score as the Nittany Lions defeated Pitt in 2019 when the previous attendance record of 5,195 people was set.
The East Carolina Pirates come to Pittsburgh, Sept. 20 before Marquette (Sept. 22) and UMBC (Sept. 25) head to the Fitzgerald Field House as the Panthers wrap up non-conference play.
The Panthers will play 20 ACC matches this year with the addition of the three new conference members, Stanford, Cal and SMU. To kick off conference play, the Panthers head south to face Clemson (Sept. 27) and Georgia Tech (Sept. 29) before traveling to Boston College (Oct. 4)…
