Fisher Signs Michigan State Transfer Emma Monks

PITTSBURGH – Head coach Dan Fisher and the University of Pittsburgh volleyball team have signed graduate transfer Emma Monks for the 2023 season. Monks, a 6-foot-4 middle blocker and graduate from Michigan State, will join the Pitt volleyball program this summer with an opportunity to make an immediate impact.

“Emma brings a level of experience and maturity to our roster that will make a quick and positive impact on our program,” Coach Fisher said. “She impressed us a player, student and person throughout her recruiting process. Her size and athleticism will be important for us both offensively and defensively. She’s played in a lot of big matches and is determined to end her career with a deep run in the NCAA Tournament.”

Monks graduated from Michigan State with a degree in Kinesiology. She was a three-time Academic All-B1G award winner and is coming off the best statistical season of her career, setting career-bests in matches played (21), sets played (69), kills (133), blocks (72.0) and points (174.0).

She finished her senior season strong, posting 65 kills (2.83 k/s) on .394 hitting with 26 blocks (1.13 blk/s) over the course of her final seven B1G matches including a career high 13 kills on .571 hitting in a sweep over Northwestern. Her final career stats as a Spartan include 1.00 block/set over the course of 62 matches, including averaging over 1 block/set in each of her past two seasons

Monks fills a position of need for the Panthers, joining Rachel Jepsen at the middle blocker position. She joins the highest rated incoming class in program history that already includes four incoming freshmen signed in the fall.
