A landmark year celebrated as the Commission charts the next phase of global growth and innovation in beach volleyball
The FIVB Beach Volleyball Commission met on Friday, February 7, setting an ambitious course for the future of the sport.
FIVB President Fabio Azevedo opened the discussions by emphasising the Commission’s crucial role in delivering the FIVB Strategic Vision 2032. With key pillars such as Beach Volleyball Turnaround; FIVB World Ranking; Athletes, History and Heritage; Technology and Integrity of the Game; and International Centres of Excellence, the meeting was both a reflection on a landmark 2024 and a step towards an even stronger future.
It is clear that 2024 was a year to remember for the sport. The Olympic Games Paris 2024 saw beach volleyball take centre stage in spectacular fashion, with the breathtaking Eiffel Tower Stadium providing an iconic backdrop to the action. Throughout the Games, 450,000 fans filled the stands, captivated by the world’s best athletes competing at the highest level. Beyond the Olympic Games, the Beach Pro Tour continued to reach fans globally numerous, delivering its most extensive calendar to date with 54 stops and 98 tournaments – split equally between men’s and women’s competitions.
Whilst the Commission reflected on a remarkable year for the sport, attention also turned to what lies ahead. The 2025 season promises to be another important year, with the Beach Pro Tour spanning five continents over nine months. The Commission reviewed the current calendar, discussed the progress of potential new events and provided updates on preparations for the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in Adelaide, Australia, in November 2025. Further discussions covered the bidding process for the 2027 World Championships, updates on the Youth Olympic Games 2026 and Age Group World Championships, as well as early preparations for LA28, all key milestones in the sport’s continued growth and development.
Beyond competition, the Commission remains focused on key areas of development that will shape the future of beach volleyball. Discussions addressed coaching regulations, refinements to the World Raking system and progress on the Beach Volleyball Turnaround strategy – a crucial aspect of the FIVB Strategic Vision 2032.
