Around CHF 24 million has been invested in 846 projects since 2017
The FIVB’s Volleyball Empowerment programme continues to break new ground in its aim to help athletes, national teams and National Federations reach their full potential and inspire a new generation of players and fans. This ambitious programme has seen around CHF 24 million invested since 2017, bringing significant benefits to the development of volleyball and beach volleyball in 195 countries.
The programme, launched in 2021 as an evolution to Projects Platform, has seen tens of millions invested across 846 projects aimed at empowering athletes and professionalising the sport.
These projects are divided into three main categories: coach support, volleyball equipment and knowledge transfer. Of the 846 total projects, 344 coach support projects have received CHF 18 million, 417 equipment projects have been granted CHF 5 million, and 85 knowledge transfer programmes have been funded with CHF 438,000.
National Federations can submit projects year-round, with four application windows set to facilitate the analysis and approval of projects. The 2023-2024 Volleyball Empowerment cycle is currently in its third application window, with the fourth window set to open from February to April 2024.
The FIVB encourages National Federations to focus on long-term planning spanning a five-year period for the development of national teams when applying for coach support programmes, with a clear vision for the next Olympic cycle 2024-2028 and beyond.
FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° said:
“The FIVB is committed to reinvesting the money that comes from the sport back into the sport. This commitment is at the heart of our revolutionary Volleyball Empowerment programme, which is open year-round for National Federations to submit strong projects aimed at the development of the sport and raising the level of their national teams.
“The programme’s positive impact is evident in the enhanced performances on the court, a more competitive playing field and the increased professionalism of National Federations. And we will only accelerate our efforts to provide even more opportunities for the global Volleyball Family in a very transparent way.”
The impact of the programme is evident in the rising success of national volleyball and beach volleyball teams, including numerous medals won by beneficiaries of the programme.
