ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Empire 8 Athletic Conference released its Men’s Volleyball All-Conference postseason awards on Thursday morning, with four Soaring Eagles earning honors along with Ayden Herreid ’26, who earned a spot on the Empire 8 Sportsman of the Year squad.
Among the Elmira recipients were Oscar Munoz Trinidad ’23 and Alberto Mauricio ’25, who earned first-team honors from the conference after helping the Soaring Eagles to a 13-8 overall record during the regular season and a second-straight United Volleyball Conference postseason appearance this upcoming weekend.
A native of Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic, Munoz Trinidad earns his second first-team all-conference selection from the Empire 8 after garnering first-team honors during the 2022 campaign for the Purple & Gold. Munoz Trinidad currently leads Elmira with a .338 hitting percentage this season, which ranks 39th in NCAA Division Men’s Volleyball.
A multi-tool player for the Soaring Eagles, Munoz Trinidad ranks second on the team this season in kills (224), third in digs (94), third in blocks (19), and third in service aces (20). He adds E8 All-Conference accolades along with earning a spot on the UVC All-Conference list as an honorable mention.
Mauricio, a native of San Pedro De Macoris, Dominican Republic, was named to the Empire 8 first team after having a breakout sophomore campaign for the Purple & Gold. The 2022 Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Year and 2022 FrogJump All-Freshmen Team recipient paced Elmira during the regular season in kills (337), service aces (27), and kills per set (4.96) while ranking second on the team in digs (145) and fourth in blocks (15).
On a national level, Mauricio leads Division III this season in kills per set and ranks third in attacks per set (10.99) and points per set (5.53). Mauricio set a career-high in kills this season for the Soaring Eagles after tallying 31 in a five-set upset against nationally ranked New York University at home.
Elmira had a pair of teammates named to the second team as Ryan Mattes ’23 earned his first all-conference selection, while Edwin Sosa ’25 earned his second straight all-conference nod for the Empire 8.
