MADISON, Wis. – Sarah Franklin and Charlie Fuerbringer of the Wisconsin volleyball team, were tabbed Big Ten Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week, announced by the conference Monday afternoon.
For the second straight week, Franklin and Fuerbringer have earned weekly honors by the Big Ten. Last week, Franklin was named Co-Player of the Week and Fuerbringer Setter of the Week, while this week Fuerbringer was named Freshman of the Week and Franklin repeated against as Player of the Week. The awards mark the third time this season where both Franklin and Fuerbringer have earned league honors.
The 6-foot-4 outside hitter hit .435 and had just three hitting errors in seven sets. Franklin totaled 32 kills and averaged 4.57 kills per set in the victories over No. 23 USC and UCLA. She chipped in with 1.43 digs per set, .43 blocks per set, and averaged 5.07 points per set. The fifth year senior has now totaled double-figure kills in all but two matches this season.
For the second time this season, freshman setter Charlie Fuerbringer earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week. In the two matches, Fuerbringer neared two double-doubles recording 82 total assists and 17 digs for an average of 11.71 assists per set and 2.43 digs per set. Fuerbringer chipped in with four service aces and four blocks.
The Badgers will look to even up the series between Minnesota and Nebraska this week as UW hosts Minnesota Wednesday at 8 p.m. CST and will travel to Nebraska on Saturday at 7 p.m. CST. Both matches can be watched on the Big Ten Network.
