COLUMBIA, S.C. – Gamecock volleyball wraps up a stretch of seven home games in 11 days when it welcomes in East Carolina at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening. Coverage can be found on the SEC Network+. South Carolina stands at 7-2 and 5-1 in the friendly confines of the Carolina Volleyball Center so far this fall.
East Carolina enters Tuesday’s matchup undefeated at 7-0, coming off of a five-set battle against Campbell in its last match. The Pirate’s offense is well-balanced, with four attackers over 50 total kills through seven games. Fran McBride leads the way with 2.88 kills per set and a solid .362 hitting percentage. The team is ranked number one nationally in opponent hitting percentage (.088), libero Lara Uyar ranks third in the American Athletic Conference with 4.48 digs per set and the team as a unit ranks 48th nationally with almost 16 digs per set. Another strength of the team has been behind the service line, where it ranks third in the AAC for aces per set, at 2.02.
The two programs have not met since 2015, but it was an even longer gap between 2015 and the meeting prior. Of the 10 total games played in the series, seven were played in the 1970s and two in the early 1980s.
For fans attending home matches this weekend and all season long at the Carolina Volleyball Center (CVC), parking is available in the lot directly in front of Thirsty Fellow restaurant (behind 650 Lincoln Dorms). It is not advised that any parking occur in the lot facing Assembly Street as tickets could be issued. There is also a lot available off Park Street next to the Strom Thurmond Fitness Center as well as the Horizon Garage off Assembly Street.
The volleyball program now has a specific supporter group that is aimed at their most loyal fans. The funds generated through the Volleyball VIP Club will go directly to the program to support student-athletes. In addition to other benefits, membership includes free admission to all regular season home matches. Tickets can be purchased on-site or through THIS LINK. Single-game tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth 17 and under, and $3 for groups of 15 or more (with pre-purchase). The student entrance will be the doors facing the Blossom and Assembly Street intersection, for general admission and VIP ticket holders, the entrance is off Park Street.
