Gator Volleyball Duo Named Gatorade State Players of the Year


Alec Rothe and Lauren Harden were awarded this prestigious award in their respective home states. 

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Two players from the 2024 Gator Volleyball signing class, Lauren Harden (Indiana) and Alec Rothe (Ohio) were named Gatorade State Players of the Year on Monday. The award recognizes the nation’s most outstanding high school student-athletes for their athletic excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character.

Rothe, who graduated from Dublin Scioto in December recorded 295 kills and 145 digs during her senior season, leading the Irish (27-1) to the Division I, Region 3 title game. The 6-foot-3 middle blocker also compiled 43 blocks and 35 service aces while posting a .501 kill percentage and a .362 hitting percentage.

Rothe has maintained a weighted 4.26 GPA in the classroom as well as is a four-year member of the Dublin Scioto High Student Senate, She has volunteered locally with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and has donated her time as a youth volleyball coach and referee.

The 2024 Florida spring enrollee was recently part of the Under Armour Next All-American Game, which is composed of the nation’s top 28 high school volleyball players.

Harden led the Royals to a 33-0 record and a second-straight Class 4A state championship this past season. The 6-foot-3 outside hitter recorded 371 kills and 161 digs while posting a .446 kill percentage and a .323 hitting percentage. The MaxPreps.com National Player of the Year as well as the state’s Miss Volleyball winner, Harden also compiled 38 blocks and 21 service aces. A three-time First Team All-State selection, she concluded her prep volleyball career with 1,250 kills.

The Fishers, Indiana maintained a weighted 4.05 GPA in the classroom as well as is an active member of the Southeastern Sports Network, where she serves as a social media leader, photographer, videographer and graphic designer. She has volunteered locally as part of fundraising campaigns to benefit the Riley Hospital for Children in addition to donating her time to the Black Student Union and as a mentor to elementary school students.
