Florida volleyball welcome’s the two-time Florida Gatorade Player of the Year and former Texas Longhorn to Gainesville.
“We first saw Jordyn play when she was in 8th grade and believed even that early, she was a player with a high top end that would be a great fit here, said Florida’s Head Coach Mary Wise. We’re thrilled she has chosen to come back home to Florida.”
In high school, the Bradenton, Florida native was a four-year starter and All-State player at Cardinal Mooney High School. She claimed the title of both the Herald-Tribune Preps Player of the Year and MaxPreps All-American in 2021, and was a 2019 3A State Champion during her freshman campaign. She surpassed 1,650 career kills throughout her four years of high school and was named her team MVP during her junior and senior years. Additionally, Byrd led her sand volleyball team to a 2022 SAIC State Championship.
A multi-sport athlete, Byrd was a back-to-back 3A state runner-up in basketball and was named the teams MVP her freshman season. She also played softball as well.
Why Byrd chose the University of Florida
“I chose Florida for many reasons. My number one reason would have to be because of the people. I am a really big people person, so when I know that I can trust the people that I will be around it is always a yes for me. Another reason, would be the competitive atmosphere. I am a super competitive person, so it helps me accept that I will fit in! Lastly, Florida is close to home, which is what I was looking for the second go around.”
Byrd is the fourth newcomer to Florida’s 2025 roster. The Gators announced the addition of Aniya Madkin last month and have signed two freshman: De’Andrea McMillian and Devin Dzienny.
