The University of Minnesota garnered its third consecutive American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award, the AVCA released on Monday morning. The United State Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced today that over 1,200 collegiate and high school teams have earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2021-2022 season.
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.
The Gophers also earned the additional Honor Roll distinction, which represents the top 20% of team GPAs in Division I volleyball.
Minnesota earned a 3.54 team GPA during the 2021-22 school year, including a 3.64 this past spring.
Minnesota had 10 individuals this past season receive Academic All-Big Ten honors, while Ellie Husemann, Rachel Kilkelly, CC McGraw and Jenna Wenaas were named Big Ten Distinguished Scholars. The Gophers completed the 2021 season with a 23-9 (15-5 B1G) record, making it to the NCAA Regional Finals and ranked seventh in the final AVCA poll.
