KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Junior middle blocker Keondreya Granberry tallied 12 kills on .706 hitting and nine blocks to pace Tennessee during its sweep (25-19, 25-14, 25-23) against Arkansas on Friday night at Food City Center.
With the 3-0 victory, the Lady Vols (14-10, 7-7 SEC) now boast six sweeps on the year. The Big Orange shut down the Razorbacks (16-10, 6-8 SEC) on offense, holding Arkansas to just 29 kills on .121 hitting thanks to 42 digs and 12 blocks, whereas UT collected 48 team kills on .312 hitting and three aces.
In total, three Lady Vols registered double-digit kills on the night. Graduate outside hitter Nina Cajic matched Granberry’s hitting with 12 kills on .257 to go along with eight digs, four blocks, one ace and one assist. Right side Paityn Chapman tallied 11 kills on .348 hitting and six blocks to mark another impressive outing for the freshman.
Redshirt sophomore setter Caroline Kerr guided the offense with 31 assists, seven digs, two kills and a block. Junior outside hitter Hayden Kubik tallied 10 digs, eight kills and three assists to lead the back row defense. Sophomore libero Katie Barrier had eight digs, two assists and an ace on the night, while senior libero Ashllyn King recorded five assists and five digs.
Neither team pulled away early in the opening frame of the contest until a 4-1 run swung the momentum in UT’s favor. The Lady Vols grabbed the early advantage thanks to strong defensive play, with 12 digs, five blocks and holding Arkansas to .097 hitting. On offense, Tennessee finished with 14 kills at .393 hitting.
The Lady Vols continued their dominance on both offense and defense in the second stanza, as the Big Orange closed the set on an impressive 14-3 run. Cajic and Chapman both finished with five kills in the frame, adding to the team’s 17 on .333 hitting. Arkansas only had nine kills in the period.
Trailing halfway through the third set, Tennessee rallied from behind and swung the momentum back in its favor to secure the victory. Granberry led the way with seven kills and three blocks in the frame. Tennessee finished with another 17 kills and four blocks, whereas the Razorbacks could not keep up, ending the set with just 10 kills and two blocks.
