Grand View Vikings Sail Away with Second Meeting Victory Over Missouri Valley

Des Moines, IA – Grand View men’s volleyball played the second leg of their conference header with Missouri Valley College Vikings today, March 11th. Grand View Vikings would win for the second time against the Missouri Valley Vikings this time in three sets with scores of, 25-17, 25-18, and 25-19. 

Set 1: Grand View University 25 | Missouri Valley College 17

Grand View would get off to a rocky start to begin set 1. A kill by Daniel Galili (SO/Shomrat, Israel) would get things going for GV, which would give the team their first lead of the set 6-5. A rally by Grand View would force Missouri Valley into a timeout. A trio of kills from Galili, Zeo Meyer (JR/Wheaton, IL ), and Nickolas Lima (FR/Curitiba, Brazil ) would give the Vikings a comfortable 20-12 lead and they would coast through the first set with a victory 25-17 after a block from Daniel Wong (SR/Campbell, CA ) and Bayron Valdez (JR/Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) 

Set 2: Grand View University 25 | Missouri Valley College 18

The second set would start with all Nickolas Lima as he gathered a quick double kill. Valdez would begin to get hot and would give the Vikings a four-point lead with a kill. Missouri Valley would begin to fight back until they would pull things back within 3 points, but Wong would put things back forward in front of the Vikings as he grabbed another kill, and an error by Missouri Valley would put them into another mid-set timeout as they score hit 16-10. Dalton Dencklau (SR/Lehigh, IA ) snagged an ace on his first serve of the contest, and a few more errors from Missouri Valley would worry them into another timeout. The set would finish in favor of Grand View giving them the 2-0 edge with a score of 25-18 after another kill from Lima. 

Set 3: Grand View University 25 | Missouri Valley College 19

Grand View would once again get out to a slower start in the third set. The Missouri Valley Vikings would hold their first convincing lead until an ace by Galili would tie things up at 6s. A kill by Nicolas Vattier (SO/Santiago, Chile) would be assisted by Zeo Meyer and the Vikings would further their lead by 18-14. Another kill by Bayron Valdez would set up two more from Galili and Wong and another timeout from Missouri Valley would be called as the Vikings inched closer to the win, 23-17. A block from Wong and Valdez would finalize this one for Grand View in 3 sets, 25-19.
