GU completes second day at Worthington Classic


WASHINGTON – Gallaudet University dropped both of its women’s volleyball matches here Saturday on the second day of the 15th annual Worthington Classic hosted by the Bison.

Gallaudet (7-10) ran into a hot Lebanon Valley College (8-4) team that eventually advanced to the tournament’s championship match before it fell to Salisbury University in four sets. 

The Bison lost in straight sets to Lebanon Valley, 17-25, 13-25, 23-25, as they went up against a strong serving team. LVC had 10 aces and no service errors against Gallaudet while the Bison had seven errors. Freshman Citrine Lummer (Frederick, Md.) led the Bison with 13 kills and eight digs while junior Emily Wright (Penn Valley, Calif.) tallied 10 kills and junior Emma Giuntoli (Austin, Texas) passed out 33 assists. 

Gallaudet finished Pool A play with a 1-2 record and faced Marymount (Va.) University in the 5th/6th place match in the afternoon. A deep Marymount (8-7) squad ran past the Bison in straight sets; 20-25, 11-25, 16-25. The Saints served up 16 aces as they played 17 players in the hour long match. Lummer and Wright finished with seven and six kills, respectively, as Giuntoli recorded 14 assists. 

Wright was named to the all-tournament team for her performance during the two-day tournament as she tallied 43 kills.

UP NEXT
GU continues its six-match homestand when it plays host to Goucher College on Wednesday night (Sept. 28) in the Field House at 7 p.m. for a non-conference match.
