Urmia, Iran, August 23, 2023 – Korea produced an epic comeback 3-2 (25-16, 19-25, 22-25, 25-19, 16-14) win against Indonesia to move up to the quarterfinals at the 22nd Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship at Hall 1 inside Alghadir Gymnasium here on Wednesday.
Powerful attackers Heo Subong and Jung Jiseok got Korea off to a brilliant start to take the first set 25-16.
However, Indonesia, strengthened by Agil Angga Anggara and Halim Farhan, did not give up easily as they stormed back aggressively for wins at the next two sets 25-19, 25-22.
The Indonesian players lost their touch in the fourth set, leaving Koreans to seize the opportunity to attack effectively and block solidly. The Koreans showed their great team efforts to outshine Indonesia 25-19 to force a decider.
The tie-breaker was hotly-contested from the very beginning, but Korea, with powerful Heo Subong on fire in attack, fared better in the final assault to capture the decider 16-14, and match.
Heo Subong scored a match-high 30 points for Korea, while Agil Angga Anggara topscored with 19 points on the Indonesia’s losing effort.
