Hokies drop 3-set sweep to NC State


RALEIGH, NC —The Virginia Tech volleyball team lost to the NC State Wolfpack in straight sets (15-25, 16-25, 20-25) Sunday on the road at Reynolds Coliseum.

The loss dropped Virginia Tech’s record to 11-8 overall and 1-7 in ACC play.

Ava Francis finished with six kills on the day to lead the Hokies attack, and 13 digs from Iliana Rodriguez to led the team defensively.



Game Notes

» Hanna Borer had a team-high one ace in the loss.

» Hailey Pearce had a team-high four total blocks.

» Ava Francis had a team-high six kills for Virginia Tech.

» Virginia Tech got a team-high 13 digs from Iliana Rodriguez.

» Virginia Tech attackers were helped by a team-high 19 assists from Hanna Borer.

» Ella Beyer made her first career start for the Hokies. 

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Hokies fell behind early, dropping a tough first set 25-15. Virginia Tech trailed by as many as 10 points as NC State never gave up the lead in a set that was knotted up just once before the Wolfpack took control.

SET 2 | A 25-16 set-two loss put Virginia Tech in a 2-0 hole in the match. The Hokies lost the first point and never clawed back into the lead before dropping the set.

SET 3 | Virginia Tech couldn’t prolong the match and lost in set number three. The Hokies came up short by the score of 25-20 after a 5-0 rally was stopped by NC State to finish the match. Virginia Tech trailed by as many as 13 points as NC State grabbed the advantage for good at 3-2 in a set that was tied up two times before the Wolfpack took over the lead.
