HOSTS HNC, IRAN CLUB SEAL IMPRESSIVE WINS ON DAY 5 OF CAVA MEN’S CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP TO FIGHT IT OUT FOR TOP SPOT 

Kathmandu, Nepal, December 11, 2024 – Hosts Help Nepal Sports Club and Iran Club powered past their respective opponents to continue unbeaten runs in the 2024 CAVA Men’s Club Volleyball Championship at the National Sports Council Covered Hall in Kathmandu on Wednesday. 

 

The action on Day 5 of the single round-robin preliminaries was electrifying, with two thrilling matches keeping fans at the gymnasium on the edge of their seats.

In the first match, Iran Club secured a commanding victory over Calicut Heroes of India, winning in closely-contested straight sets 27-25, 25-22, 25-20 in 61 minutes.

Opposite hitter Amir Naderi Noureyni was the standout performer of Iran Club, scoring an impressive 16 points from 12 attacks, one block and 3 aces, while middle blocker Mohammed Nima Bateni and outside hitter Mohammad Amin Rahimi kept good company to contribute 14 and 12 points respectively.

Opposite Vinit Kurar showcased his skills, contributing 11 points, all in attacks, on the Calicut Heroes’ loss.

Iran Club’s tactical edge and strong serves proved too much for the Indian side, solidifying their place among the top contenders.

 

The second match saw Help Nepal Sports Club (HNC) delight the home crowd with their near flawless performance against Club HDC from Maldives to see off the strong visitors in a dramatic 3-1 victory (25-22, 24-26, 25-19, 25-21). 

 

Outside hitter Chirag from India delivered an outstanding performance, scoring a match-high 32 points from 29 attacks and 3 blocks), the highest of the day, for Club HDC.

However, it wasn’t enough to overcome HNC’s collective strength, led by outside hitter Mubashar Raza from Pakistan, who scored 23 points from 22 attacks and one ace to power his team to victory.

Following the Wednesday’s results, HNC stay atop the five-team standings with 8 points from three straight wins, followed closely by Iran Club with 7 points, also from three wins in a row. Calicut Heroes came in third place with 4 points from one win against two losses, while Club HDC finished finished fourth with 3 points from one win against three losses.

 

Gandaki Pradesh remain at the bottom of the standing with 2 points from three consecutive losses. However, their upcoming match against Calicut Heroes is expected to offer the Nepalese Club a chance to climb to the fourth position.
