ALBANY, N.Y. – The Union College women’s volleyball team hit .429 as a team and made only five hitting errors in three sets to cruise past Russell Sage College by a 3-0 (25-12, 25-9, 25-15) score in non-conference action on Friday evening at Kahl Campus Center.
Several Garnet Chargers had excellent days offensively in the victory for Union (2-2), which put down 44 kills on 91 attempts as a team. Sophomore Shelby McKim hit .800 with eight kills on 10 errorless attacks, while classmate Erin Stevens swung at a .500 clip with a match-high nine kills on 18 attempts. First-year Georgia Pinciaro also hit well with eight kills on .467 hitting as 11 different players recorded at least one kill.
Junior Georgia Pool recorded a team-leading 15 digs to pace the defensive effort, while first-year Allie Kronenberg (16 assists) and sophomore Sydney Scanlon (15 assists) split the setting duties.
The visitors jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the opening set and never trailed, opening the lead up to as many as nine at 15-6. After Sage got back within six at 17-11, Union closed on an 8-1 run, led by two kills and a block from McKim.
Union used a 12-1 run early in the second stanza to build up an 16-4 advantage and hit .452 on the way to a second-set win. Pinciaro led all players with six kills in the frame as five different players put down at least two kills.
The Garnet Chargers closed out the match with their best hitting frame, finding the court on 15 of their 30 swings with only one error (.467). Sage held its only leads of the night in the set and…
