WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.—For the third time in four weeks, Eva Hudson was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week following Purdue’s 2-0 weekend at the Stacey Clark Classic.
Hudson, the Stacey Clark Classic MVP, led the league in Week 4 with 6.20 points per set and 5.17 kills per set. The Fort Wayne, Indiana native guided a Boilermaker offense that averaged 15.17 kills per set, the highest mark among Big Ten teams.
The outside hitter had her most efficient match of the season vs. Northern Kentucky, registering .500 hitting % with 15 kills and one error on 28 swings. Meanwhile vs. Ball State, Hudson came one dig shy of a double-double with 16 kills, nine digs and four stuffs. Her defensive effort at the net included one block solo on the match-winning point (30-28) in set three. Moreover, her effort against the Cardinals led to 20.5 total points, the most by a Big Ten player in a three-set match last week.
Hudson is the fastest Big Ten player to reach three Freshman of the Week accolades since Minnesota’s Samantha Seliger-Swenson in 2015.
After closing out non-conference season with a 9-1 record, No. 11 Purdue is set to begin Big Ten play vs. No. 8 Minnesota on Friday at 7 p.m. The sold-out match inside Holloway Gymnasium will also be televised on Big Ten Network.
