Hunt Wins Volleyball’s First Big Ten Weekly Award

SEATTLE – Julia Hunt made a bit of history today, becoming the first Husky Volleyball player to win a weekly award in the Big Ten Conference. Hunt was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week today after helping lead the Huskies to wins over Washington State and UC Davis.

A middle blocker from Covington, Ky., Hunt has more than lived up to her rating as one of the nation’s top recruits. She currently leads the team with a .376 attack percentage, averaging 2.04 kills per set and a team-leading 1.36 blocks per set.

Last weekend, in her first two matches at home, Hunt posted consecutive season-highs in kills, first getting 10 against WSU on Friday, then pounding out 16 kills against the Aggies on Sunday. She hit .391 for the weekend and also added nine blocks. The 16 kills were the most by a Husky middle since Marin Grote also had a season-high of 16 in 2022.

Hunt was an AVCA First Team All-American as a senior at Holy Cross High School in Kentucky and she was the 2023 Gatorade Player of the Year for Kentucky as well as being named Ms. Kentucky Volleyball. She was ranked 11th in the national recruiting rankings by PrepDig.com.

Washington is 7-0 with one week of non-conference play remaining. The Huskies have a rare Tuesday night match this week at Oregon State before playing in Long Beach, Calif. this Thursday and Friday against Long Beach State and Pepperdine.
