Huskies Defeat No. 20 Pepperdine, Fall To No. 5 LMU


LOS ANGELES – Coming of a 5-0 tournament on their home court, the Washington Beach Volleyball team was feeling good heading down to LMU to face two top-20 teams. With the post-season coming up and the Pac-12 Championships just next week, the Huskies continue to prepare by facing tough opponents like No. 20 Pepperdine and No. 5 LMU.
 
Pepperdine
 
For the first match of the day Washington took on No. 20 Pepperdine. With post-season in sight, this was a huge top-20 matchup for the Huskies. Pairs 2, 4 and 5 took to the courts first.
 
The first pair to finish up was Washington’s No. 2 pair Piper Monk-Heidrich and Kendall Mather who took on Roberts/McLeod. The pair dropped the first set 13-21 but responded by winning the second 21-18. The Huskies came up just shy in the tiebreak set, losing 10-15. Shortly after, the No. 5 pair Maeve Griffin and Shannon Gormally took on Briede/Oriskovich. The Huskies lost to the Waves 9-21, 18-21 to give Pepperdine their second point.
 
Next up for the Huskies were Teagan DeFalco and Mary Sinclair at the No. 4 pair taking on Campbell/Perez. The Huskies won a marathon of a first set that ended with an incredible score of 35-33. Pepperdine responded by taking the second set 21-16. The Huskies fought through the endurance battle to win the tiebreak set 15-12, keeping things alive for their 1 and 3 pairs.
 
At the No. 1 pair Natalie Robinson and Chloe Loreen dominated Thomas/Clermont 21-11, 21-11. This win tied the dual score up at 2-2.
 
With the match on the line, Scarlett Dahl and Paloma Bowman took on Standage/Quintero at the No. 3 pair. The Huskies clinched the dual with a 21-17, 21-14 victory.
 
Loyola Marymount

Immediately following the Pepperdine match, the Huskies took on host, No. 5 LMU. Pairs 2, 4 and 5 took to the courts first. The first pair to finish up was No. 2 Piper Monk-Heidrich and Kendall Mather. The Huskies lost to Garder/Thorup 20-22, 12-21. To give LMU their first point.

Next to finish up was court 4 with Teagan DeFalco and Mary Sinclair taking on Hooker/Chinn. The Huskies dropped the first set 18-21 but responded by taking the second 21-18. LMU prevailed in the tiebreak winning 15-7. On court No. 5, the Huskies went with Griffin/Yerex in the lineup. The Huskies took on Firnett/Tucker but fell short 15-21, 13-21 to give LMU their third point and the dual win. At the No. 2 pair, Scarlett Dahl and Paloma Bowman took on Ramirez/Reffel. The Huskies lost 16-21, 11-21.
