SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The 13th-ranked Husky beach volleyball team picked up two big wins today over UC Davis and Cal Poly, bouncing back well from a tough day on Saturday. The Beach Dawgs improved to 12-10 on the season, while Scarlett Dahl and Paloma Bowman finished off a 4-0 weekend at the No. 3 spot.
Match 1 vs UC Davis
The Huskies took three of the five first sets against the Aggies and were able to close out all three to clinch the win, then rallied to force a third set on the final two courts, winning one for the 4-1 final. It was the first meeting between the teams on the sand.
Teagan DeFalco and Mary Sinclair were first to finish at No. 4, going 21-16, 21-12 against Coolbaugh/Lazenby. Hannah Yerex and Shannon Gormally then put away Rau-Kim/Letvin at No. 5, 21-17, 21-19.
Natalie Robinson and Chloe Loreen clinched with a 22-20, 21-16 win at No. 1 against Mitchell/Miller. Dahl and Bowman got the fourth point, coming back to beat Olen/Luly at the No. 3 position, 15-21, 21-17, 15-10. Piper Monk-Heidrich and Kendall Mather were just edged out in three, 21-19, 12-21, 15-13, by McGuire/Rollins at No. 2.
Match 2 vs Cal Poly
Facing the host Mustangs, the Huskies had a couple key deuce set wins in the first sets, and then carried that momentum to another 4-1 victory.
Dahl and Bowman pulled out a 24-22 first set against Peranich/Golik at No. 3, then won 21-12 in the second set to clinch the Husky win.
The first point again was scored by DeFalco and Sinclair, who beat Zuffelato/Graff by matching 21-11 set scores. Loreen and Robinson had a 21-13, 21-19 victory on the top court over Ferch/Martinez.
Yerex and Gormally pulled out a 22-20 first set at No. 5 over Warren/Lloyd, then backed it up with a 21-17 second set to take the point.
Next week the Huskies head to Stanford for the Pac-12 North Invitational on Apr. 7-8.
