SEATTLE — The Huskies visit the Great Lakes State for the first time since 1993 this weekend, looking to snap a three-match skid. Washington (13-3, 3-3 Big Ten) came up just shy of its biggest win of the season on Sunday but has two more chances for key road wins this Friday, Oct. 18, in Ann Arbor against the Wolverines, and on Sunday, Oct. 20, in its first trip to East Lansing.

Both matches will be streamed on Big Ten Plus. First serve at Michigan will be 4 p.m. Pacific time and UW at MSU kicks off at 10 a.m. PT.

Washington has only made one trip to Ann Arbor, back in 1993, and UW and Michigan have not met on the volleyball court since 2010. The Huskies last played Michigan State in 2015 in Seattle but this is their first trip to East Lansing.

The Dawgs had a heartbreaking end to one of their best performances of the season on Sunday as they dropped a five setter at 11th-ranked Oregon in Eugene, despite outhitting the Ducks overall in the match, finishing with more kills and digs. UW held a 10-5 lead in the fifth and were up 12-9 before the Ducks made a run and grabbed the final six points. But the Huskies saw plenty to build on, and were sparked by Kierstyn Barton’s 20 kill, 16 dig outing in her first start since returning from an injury.

It will take a similar effort against a tough Michigan squad that is 4-2 in conference and 14-3 overall. UM is coming off a 3-1 win at Ohio State preceded by a three set loss to Illinois. Michigan is hitting .248 for the year and holding opponents to just .177. Allison Jacobs has been one of the top scorers in the league with 4.12 kills per set hitting .250. Serena Nyambio is hitting .412 with 2.08 kills per set. Libero Maddi Cuchran is averaging 4.08 assists per set. The Huskies last played Michigan in the NCAA tournament first round in 2010, getting a 3-0 win. Michigan’s win in the series came back in Ann Arbor in 1993.

Michigan State is 7-10 and 0-6 in Big Ten play but has played one of the toughest conference schedules thus far, already playing No. 3 Penn State twice, as well as No. 10 Purdue….
