Illinois volleyball hits the road as the team continues its Big Ten slate with a match against Rutgers at College Avenue Gym on Sunday. The Orange and Blue hold a 10-11 overall record as the team continues another week of Big Ten play with a record of 5-6 in conference matchups.
The 2022 campaign marks the 49th season of Illinois volleyball, with the Illini holding an overall record of 1,044-606-7 (.632) and a mark of 473-303 (.610) in the Big Ten.

LAST TIME OUT
The Illini earned its first victory over a nationally-ranked opponent this season as the Orange and Blue topped No. 11 Penn State in a four-set stunner from Huff Hall on Wednesday night. The triumph over the Nittany Lions marked head coach Chris Tamas‘ 24th win over a ranked opponent during his tenure at Illinois.
Raina Terry dominated during the takedown of Penn State as the outside hitter matched her season-high of 24 kills while hitting .380 for the match. The contest marked Terry’s ninth career 20-kill match and third of the year.
Illinois recorded 15 blocks in the victory, the team’s best defensive effort at the net this year. Rylee Hinton led the way with eight roofs for the Orange and Blue. Kennedy Collins tied her season high as she tallied six stuffs.
HISTORY OF ILLINOIS VS. THE FIELD
Rutgers and the Fighting Illini are set to square off in the 14th all-time meeting between the squads with the Orange and Blue taking the decision in the last 13 appearances. Illinois leads the series 13-1 including a 6-0 mark when meeting in Huff Hall.
During the squad’s first battle on Oct. 12, the Illini dominated in a 3-0 sweep of the Scarlet Knights on ESPNU. Three Illini registered double-digit kills with Brooke Mosher leading the way with 12 strikes. Kayla Burbage rattled off 11 on a .450 hitting clip while Raina Terry added 10 kills of her own.
OPPONENT SCOUT
Rutgers owns a 7-15 overall record and 1-9 mark in Big Ten play. The Scarlet Knights have won just four sets during league play. The squad’s lone conference victory was a five-set thriller against Michigan State on Sept. 25.
