The tournament name honors Sun Devil legends Tammy Webb-Leibl (1983-1986) and Amanda Burbridge (1997-2000), two All-Americans who are in the Sun Devil Athletics Hall of Fame. Both will be honored during the tournament.
A two-time first team All-American, Webb-Leibl is all over the record book: for career stats, the middle blocker is fourth in kills, first in solo blocks, second in total blocks and fifth in aces. Additionally, she was an All-Pac-10 player and was named a Pac-10 Player of the Decade for the 1980s. She led the team to three NCAA tournament appearances (1983, 1985-86).
Burbridge is a three-time all-conference honoree, once on the all-freshman team. The outside hitter was an All-American her senior season and was an academic All-American that same season. In the record book, she is fifth in career kills. She won the 2001 Pac-10 Conference Medal and was the 2000 VolleyCentral.com co-National Player of the Year.
Arizona State will bring in Cal State Bakersfield, Northern Iowa and Toledo to start the season. The event will also serve as an alumni weekend for Sun Devil Volleyball, with several letterwinners from all eras returning to Tempe. Bakersfield will be participating in alumni weekend as its head coach is Giovana Melo, a Sun Devil alum who was a setter for Arizona State from 2003-04. She was a team captain her senior year and earned two degrees from ASU. Additionally, she was an assistant coach for three years with the Sun Devils.
Season tickets for the 2022 season are currently on sale. Single game and group tickets for the season are on sale beginning Tuesday.
