Manila, Philippines, May 24, 2024 – Indonesia claimed their first victory in Pool B of the 2024 AVC Challenge Cup after winning 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-14) against Singapore on Friday afternoon at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
The 2023 runners-up dominated throughout the match as Captain Bela Sabrina Agustina led all scorers on the board with 15 points.
Junaida Santi and Putri Agustin also powered the Indonesian offense from the flanks. They scored 12 points and 11 points respectively.
The young Indonesian squad played a steady match, settling comfortably into a good system. They suffered from errors, for sure, but possessed enough composure to limit their flaws and carry on.
Meanwhile, Singapore succeeded several sequences, showing their capability to run a good offense. Natalie Lai Tzak Hshin and Ethel Siow Yi Yin converted from the wing. The team also made some good decisions in transition, and even played well in block defense, garnering 6 points from deflections.
Indonesian setter Alridhania Risqamara ran a tight offense that showed how Indonesia’s second team connected well, even in their first international outing.
“We’ve done a really good job. Our communication and teamwork went well in this match,” she said.
Indonesia’s team manager Luciana Yvette Taroreh said “This competition will be a good opportunity to improve our skill and our mental attitude toward the game.
“Winning is important, but sometimes you can consider that you win more when you gain experience. This is our objective in this championship,” she said.
On Saturday , Indonesia will face Kazakhstan at 13:00 while Singapore will play against Hong Kong, China in the opening match at 10:00. All times local.
