Iosia Named B1G Defensive Player of the Week


CHICAGO – For the second time in her career, fifth year libero Nalani Iosia has been named B1G Defensive Player of the Week. Iosia is just the fourth Spartan all-time to earn two B1G defensive weekly honors in a career since the award originated in 2005, joining Allyson Karaba (2007-10), Alexis Mathews (2009-13) and Kori Moster (2011-14).
 
Iosia was a standout for the Spartans all weekend, earning All-Tournament Team honors at the second annual Kathy DeBoer Invitational presented by Auto-Owners Insurance. Her 25 digs against receiving votes Western Kentucky were instrumental in the Spartans coming away victorious. Iosia led all Spartans with 56 digs on 5.09 digs per set, passing a 2.65 rating on 73 percent positive pass.
 
It’s the first B1G weekly honor of the season for Michigan State, who earned a pair of B1G Defensive Player of the Week accolades last season (Iosia, Amani McArthur). The Spartans are coming off a 3-0 weekend at home in which they defeated Western Kentucky (3-1), Marist (3-0) and Loyola Chicago (3-1).
 
MSU remains at home this week, meeting Western Michigan for an intrastate match at 6:00 on Wednesday, September 11.
