Kathmandu, Nepal, December 12, 2024 – The inaugural CAVA Men’s Club Volleyball Championship concluded its single round-robin preliminaries on Thursday, marking an intense day of volleyball action at Tripureswor Hall. The top four teams have now secured their spots in the semifinals, set to begin Friday.
The day opened with a thrilling face-off between Iran Club and hosts Help Nepal Sports Club. Despite a strong start by HNC, taking the closely-contested first set 25-23, Iran Club bounced back in style to comfortably take the next three sets 25-16, 25-17, 25-9.
The 205cm-tall middle blocker Mir Mohammad Mousavi Tazehkand showcased his talent, leading the scoreboard with a match-high 12 points from 7 attacks, 3 blocks and 2 aces for Iran Club. Outside hitter Amir Mohammad Rafierad and fellow outside hitter Mobin Kolasangiani contributed 11 points apiece for the team’s win.
Opposite Dhan Bahadur Bhatta Chhetri put up a commendable fight, emerging as the highest scorer for hosts HNC with 10 points, all in attacks.
The second match featured Calicut Heroes (CAH) from India and Gandaki Pradesh (GND) from Nepal. Calicut Heroes played every part of the game well to secure a sensational straight-sets (25-22, 25-19, 25-15) victory.
The dynamic duo of outside hitter Mashwin Raj and fellow outside hitter Aman Kumar shone brightly for Calicut, contributing 11 points each to their team’s win. Outside hitter Rabi K.C led Gandaki Pradesh with 9 points from 8 attacks and one block.
At the end of the single round-robin preliminaries on Thursday, Iran Club emerged as the frontrunners, remaining undefeated with 10 points from four straight wins. They are followed closely by Help Nepal Sports Club with 8 points from three wins against one loss.
Calicut Heroes secured third place with 7 points from two wins against two losses, while Club HDC from Maldives came in fourth position with 3 points from one win against three losses. Gandaki Pradesh did not make their mark to go down in all four matches contested. The Nepalese side finished on the bottom of the standings with 2 points, failing to make the cut for the semifinals.

The final round promises electrifying clashes as the top four teams will battle it out in the cross semifinals to vie for places in the showdown.
