Astana, Kazakhstan, 6 July 2023 – Titleholders Iran carried on their winning ways, as they breezed through a 3-0 win (25-10, 25-7, 25-15) against Iraq in the men’s semifinal round of 2023 WPV Sitting Volleyball Asian Zone Championships.
Thursday evening’s match at the Jekpe-Jek Sports Centre closed off the fourth day of the competition, with Iran setting a finale showdown date with home team Kazakhstan.
Iran showed dominance over their contenders, powering through a sweep of all their matches so far, even without their mainstay Morteza Mehrzadselakjani in the roster in Astana.
As Iran have previously qualified for the next Paralympic Games through their title in the 2022 WPV Sitting Volleyball World Championships in Sarajevo, the second best ranked team, hosts Kazakhstan, will then claim the berth for Paris 2024.
Iran and Kazakhstan will play for their rightful places in the podium at they face off on the men’s title match on Saturday, 8th of July, at 16:30 local time.
