Ivan Cosic re-elected to WADA Athlete Council Ivan Cosic re-elected to WADA Athlete Council

World ParaVolley Athletes’ Commission member Ivan Cosic has been re-elected to the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) Athlete Council Group 2i for 2025-2027.

The election was held virtually via an online voting platform between 10-12 December 2024 and was available only to International Federation (IF) Athlete Commissions (ACs) that were registered and deemed eligible to vote. A total of 55 out of 60 IF ACs voted (91.7% participation rate).  Cosic was among eight successful candidates, from a group of 26 nominatoins.

WADA President Witold Bańka said: “On behalf of WADA, I would like to extend our congratulations to the eight athletes that have been elected to Group 2 of the Agency’s Athlete Council for 2025-2027. I am confident that these eight members, both returning and newly elected, will apply their passion for clean sport and their commitment to amplifying athlete voices to ensure WADA remains focused on being athlete centered. I look forward to getting to know the new members and to continuing our collaborative work with the Athlete Council.”   


Cosic has a lengthy sport resume, which includes:

  • Captain of the Croatia Sitting Volleyball team
  • 4 World championships participation
  • 8 European championships participation
  • Multiple national championship and cup titles
  • 2 times winner of best attacker in the European championships (2017, 2019)
  • Chair of the ParaVolley Europe Athletes’ Commission since 2019
  • Board Member of World ParaVolley since 2019, Member of the World ParaVolley Athletes’ Commission since 2019, and Vice-chair of the World ParaVolley Athletes’ Commission since 2023
  • Member of the WADA Athletes’ Council since 2023

Cosic began playing sitting volleyball at the international level in 2006. Being part of the competition and seeing the high-level of play of European teams inspired him to develop his own playing and leadership skills. His excellent communication skills paved the way for his involvement in team management and project management.

He has been leading the Croatian team as captain for several years now and is a valuable member of the World ParaVolley Athletes Commission, and of the World ParaVolley Board of Directors.
