Astana, Kazakhstan, 8 July 2023 – Japan bagged the bronze medal of in the women’s competition of the 2023 WPV Sitting Volleyball Asian Zone Championships after completing a straight-sets match, 3-0 (25-7, 25-5, 25-9) over Korea on Saturday morning at the Jekpe -Jek Sports Centre
Japan enforced and established their dominance in the match, with strategic precision in serve and attack. Their opponents were unable to find solutions nor momentum in staking a claim for the third place.
In their previous match-up in the 2019 Asian Zonals held in Bangkok, Thailand, Japan similarly posted a sweep against their East Asian neighbours.
Japan had entered the competition chasing for that chance to fly to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, but would have to settle for a place in the podium with their bronze medal achievement.
Japan coach Mano Yoshihisa commented: “I am satisfied with the result in this competition as the girls and the staff worked really hard.”
“This will only mean that we have to do more, train more and prepare more, as we want to achieve more in the next competition,” he added.
