Jehlarova becomes all-time conference leader with 10th-career weekly award

SAN FRANCISCO — Fifth-year senior Magda Jehlarova became the Pac-12 all-time career leader after winning the 10th weekly conference award of her career, having been named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office Monday.  Jehlarova helped then-seventh-ranked Washington State volleyball (14-1, 4-0 Pac-12) to a 2-0 Oregon road trip this past weekend, leading the team with seven total blocks in a thrilling four-set upset on the road at then-sixth-ranked-Oregon on Sunday.

Washington State moved up in Monday’s polls to No. 4 in the AVCA Top-25, its highest national ranking in program history.

Jehlarova averaged 3.14 kills/set while hitting .395 in the Cougars’ 2-0 road trip to Oregon State and Oregon this past weekend to go along with 1.57 blocks/set.  She had a team-leading seven blocks with 12 kills, giving the Cougars points in key moments to take down Oregon on the road Sunday, snapping the Ducks’ 20-match home winning streak in Matthew Knight Arena.

With her second defensive weekly award from the Pac-12 this season, Jehlarova now has eight in her career to go along with one offensive and one freshman award during her five-year career.  Not only is she Washington State’s career leader in total blocks with 672 and counting, Jehlarova is also the NCAA’s active leader in blocks for her career while also ranking 11th in the NCAA and first in the Pac-12 this season with 1.44 blocks/set.  Through the Cougars’ 14-1 start to the season, she is averaging 2.40 kills/set at a .447 clip, an attacking percentage that ranks seventh the nation and No. 1 in the Pac-12.

The Cougs are off to one of the best starts in program history and have started the season 4-1 against the AVCA Top-25, including a 3-1 record against the AVCA’s top-10 to begin the season.
