TEMPE β Jillian Neal, a freshman outside hitter from San Diego, has signed with Sun Devil Volleyball for the upcoming 2023 season, bringing the roster up to 14.
“We can’t wait to have Jillian on our team,” head coach JJ Van Niel said. “She is a good kid that comes from a great family and her personality and drive will be another solid addition for our culture. As an incoming freshman, she will add depth to our pins and bring a high level of ball control. She has a great passion for ASU and we can’t wait to have her join our Sun Devil family.”
Neal, a 6-2 outside hitter, played at Del Norte High School, where she made First Team All-Palomar League. For club, she played for Wave Volleyball. Just this past spring, she led her team to the USA Volleyball 18 Open National Championship, where she scored the championship point to win the title with her squad. For her efforts, she was named to the all-tournament team.
Her family has athletic genes as well. Her older sister Colby Neal is a middle blocker at Oregon. Her father Stephen Neal played in the NFL with the New England Patriots and won three Super Bowls. He also wrestled at Cal State Bakersfield and won two NCAA championships.
