DURHAM – The Duke volleyball team collected its sixth-straight victory with a 3-1 (25-21, 24-26, 25-22, 25-19) win over Michigan Friday evening at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
How it Happened
- Senior outside hitter Gracie Johnson tallied a whopping career-high 28 kills to hit an impressive .389 percent. Her 28 kills are currently tied for third in the nation in a four-set match.
- Sophomore Rachel Richardson brought in 13 kills, eight digs and three blocks in her all-around match.
- Graduate setter Devon Chang dished 50 assists, the most in a match for Duke this season. Sophomore libero Nikki Underwood tallied 17 digs to pace the defense while Rylie Kadel added five blocks including a solo at the net.
- The Blue Devils came out swinging in the opening set to hit .361 percent as Johnson racked up seven quick kills with Chang assisting on 14 of the 16 team kills.
- The Wolverines tied the match at 1-1 in the second despite the Blue Devils’ .323 hitting clip. Kadel and Lizzie Fleming tallied solo blocks to pace the blocking contingent.
- Michigan featured 11 block assists in the third set to hold Duke to its lowest offensive set (.125 percent), but Fleming’s four kills and no errors helped lead the Blue Devils to a 25-22 win.
- The fourth set featured five tie scores, but Johnson came alive once again to spearhead the offense. She tallied eight kills and just one error on 16 attempts to hit .438 to help give Duke its sixth win of the season.
